Tribute to \u00a0Carlos Pa\u00e9z Vilar\u00f3 \u2013 Uruguayan Artist<\/h1>\n

With the presence of President Mujica, the Senate paid tribute to Uruguayan painter Carlos Pa\u00e9z Vilar\u00f3 on occasion of his ninetieth anniversary on the 28th<\/sup> of August 2013.<\/p>\n

Carlos Paez Vilaro’s Life<\/h2>\n

The senators stressed the contribution of Pa\u00e9z Vilar\u00f3 to art and culture of Uruguay. They reviewed aspects of his life from childhood up to the present. They highlighted his figure and his „humanity“ considering Pa\u00e9z Vilar\u00f3 as „an example for future generations.“<\/p>\n

A video was presented with different moments of the life of Pa\u00e9z Vilar\u00f3, images of his creations and his statements.<\/p>\n

Pa\u00e9z Vilar\u00f3 who was accompanied by his family, smiled all the time, explaining that he feels good at 90 \u00a0and he is „happy for things learned, but what matters is to keep going.“<\/p>\n

„I am a maker of things. I tried to be the ceramic potter, I tried to build without being an architect, I tried painting without teachers, and I tried doing Candombe music without being a composer. I am a doer, „said Carlos Pa\u00e9z Vilar\u00f3.<\/p>\n

He also said he has yet to do something he already tried, and considers impossible: „create art for the blind. I cannot understand how a man can be a lifetime without knowing the colour\u201d<\/p>\n

He also said that his favourite place in the world is Casapueblo<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Anyone who drives into Punta del Este<\/a> can easily see the first peninsula of Punta Ballena. (Whale Peninsula) \u00a0From there the best sights of Punta del Este<\/a> can be seen. But on the west side of this peninsula another wonder surprises any visitor. Casapueblo<\/a>, built by Uruguayan artist Carlos Pa\u00e9z Vilar\u00f3 , is built on a hill, overlooking the ocean. Because of its white washed style and size it seems surreal.<\/p>\n

Casapueblo is the house of the Uruguayan artist Carlos Pa\u00e9z Vilar\u00f3 but as you walk around the whole house, the restaurant, the hotel and each one of its twists and turns, you realize \u00a0that the whole house is an art gallery. It is opened all year round with multiple activities.<\/p>\n

According to the chronicles written inside Casapueblo, Carlos P\u00e1ez Vilar\u00f3, without being an architect, was inspired by the homer birds \u00a0and the countrymen who rely on adobe to build their houses.<\/p>\n

The house itself reminds you of Gaudi in Barcelona and of the Mediterranean. The art galleries are worth visiting, as well. But watching the sunset while the owner of the house reads a poem written by Carlos Pa\u00e9z Vilar\u00f3 is a must.<\/p>\n

Neither words nor films can give a real account of what is inside, of what the place means. Casapueblo is the place where an inspired artist built his place in the world.<\/p>\n

Casapueblo is one of those „once in a life time“ experiences anyone visiting Punta del Este should not miss.<\/p>\n
