Born 1946 in Montevideo, Uruguay, architect Carlos Ott rose to fame when he was selected in 1983 from among 744 architects from all over the world for the construction of the Opera in Paris, inaugurated on July 14, 1989, the bicentennial of the French Revolution.
Selected one of the three finalists, Ott was then hand-picked by then French President Francois Mitterrand as the winner of this prestigious project. Ott moved to Paris and formed a team to complete the project which gave him international recognition and opened doors to many countries.
Some of his best known international accomplishments include a hospital in Weimar, Germany; the Salle des Spectacles in Mont de Marzan Landes, France; the Thomson Headquarters Building, Offices and Laboratories in Geneva, Switzerland; and projects in the United Arab Emirates such as the Sheikh Zayed Road Development Project, and the National Bank of Abu Dhabi Headquarters among others.
In 1992, he returned to Uruguay to complete the International Airport of Laguna del Sauce and Punta Shopping Centre, Punta del Este, Uruguay; the International Airport of Ushuaia-Malvinas Argentina, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina; the headquarters for the state owned telecommunications company ANTEL, Montevideo, Uruguay, among many other major projects in South America.
His unique style of architecture is recognized worldwide through many prestigious awards. Ott continues to travel and work on projects in USA, Canada, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, Singapore, China, United Arab Emirates, India, Sri Lanka, Brazil and Uruguay.
He has offices in Toronto, Quebec, Shanghai, Dubai and Montevideo.
